Online Safety and Security
You want to make sure you protect the identities of the students as well as their personal data online this is both legal and ethical. Most school networks only provide the sites that they approve of. At times this can be bad because they block some sites that can be valuable to the students. Cyber-bullying can take place also and can be just as bad or worst then school-ground bullying.
The Children's Internet Protection Act [CIPA] help to allows school districts to receive E-Rate funds to help. Students become more familiar to the internet.They mush have filtering or blocking technology on every computer hooked to the internet. They must also follow policies and for internet safety. Some sites are block due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act [COPPA]

5 steps to avoiding copyright problems
1. Create and implement a technology policy that includes a code of ethics and set of procedures
2. Review the entire policy with your educational community: students, teachers, and parents
3. Appoint a technology manager to conduct audits nad maintain a log of licenses and registration materials.
4. teach ethical and legal behavior for technology use.
5. Thank employees and students for supporting these steps.

The above stood out to me because I never put much thought into what all it takes to run the internet and computers at the school. With this I have more of an understanding what all is involved and do not blame them now for blocking some sites.

You need to make sure that both the administration and parents are on the same page about the internet. That they understand the policy and what is ethical. Each parent does this differently.
There is social media and instant messaging to take in to account. Also there is Image sharing, Flickr is the most known.
One way is if the site is block is to ask the technology people to place it on the intranet or ask to receive a software similar to what you would like to use.
