Most students have a laptop or a desktop that belongs to the family to use.
Most classrooms are becoming better at equipping students with computers in the classroom.
There are more students today that are in front of the computer messing around or what not and not in front of the TV or outside. They are communicating with people all over the world. They even are instantly publishing their work for the world to see and comment on it.

They know how to text, shop, download music, email, go to apps on the internet, design video, edit pictures, and just conduct personal research all on their own.
This "technology is altering (rewiring) our brains. The tools we use define and shape our thinking," ( Solomon and Schrum, 21st Century Skills, 35) By doing this the students are thinking more critical and not thinking the same way as their parents did.
Teachers now-a-days need to think of new ways to bring the student in to want to pay attention by their own will. You want to use the new technology that is out there. Help the students stay up to date if possible.
